The new artificial intelligence assistant Fluent Liikuttaja serves outdoor enthusiasts, hikers and tourists in all languages and also enables round-the-clock service.
In cooperation with the software company Mindhive, Fluent has developed a new innovation that serves all outdoor enthusiasts, exercise enthusiasts and tourists, and makes the work of municipalities easier: Fluent Liikuttaja is an intelligent conversational partner from whom the user can inquire about, for example, lesser-known attractions, accessible hiking routes, the nearest campfire sites or, for example, ideas for planning an excursion day. Liikuttaja can also give the user arrival instructions and, for example, information about parking areas. Liikuttaja understands almost all languages and is constantly learning more.
“We got inspiration for Liikuttaja from ¨the “Hikoiluagentti” who worked in Joensuu, who guided and inspired the local people to exercise. Our goal is to practically virtualize a municipal employee who is responsible for physical activity and tourism and is able to guide both locals and tourists in any language”, says Mikko Hassinen, Fluent’s CCO.

“This also saves the time of the municipality’s employees, because, for example, there is no need to inform about the ski tracks that have just been maintained separately on several channels, when Liikuttaja can tell the user the necessary information. In addition, the municipality only needs to produce content in Finnish, as Liikuttaja can translate the information for the people. For now, Liikuttaja works in writing, but in the future it will also accept speech, and will be able to answer in speech itself”, continues Hassinen.
Reacts authentically to the user’s language
Liikuttaja uses generative artificial intelligence, thanks to which it can understand and produce natural language and react authentically to the user’s language.
“Municipalities can significantly improve municipal services with the help of generative artificial intelligence technology. Now, for the first time, we can discuss things in our own words and also in our native language, be it Finnish, Swedish or, say, Ukrainian. In addition, you can get answers for both weekend skiers and night orienteers, regardless of the time of day,” says Mindhive’s CEO Ville Venäläinen.
With the help of Liikuttaja, residents of the municipality and those visiting the municipality can find the information they need in one place. Fluent Liikuttaja collects data in real time from e.g. snowmobile routes and ski tracks, and refines the collected data into answers to users’ questions.
Liikuttaja is a part of the Fluent Outdoors map service, which shows all sports and camping venues and attractions with maintenance information on the same platform. Fluent Outdoors is already used by more than 80 Finnish municipalities. Fluent Outdoors is able to combine all available information from already existing databases.
Fluent brings information content to the new service, and Mindhive, on the other hand, implements the artificial intelligence assistant itself.
“Both Fluent and Mindhive already have experience working with municipalities, but this is the first time that we are joining forces on this issue and bringing to municipalities a completely new service that makes everyday life easier for all parties involved”, Mikko Hassinen sums up.
