Fluent Outdoors and the world’s funniest skiing event Simmarihiihto are collaborating – a donation will be made to charity based on the laps skied.
The wonder of Eastern Finland, Fluent Outdoors, known as the most stylish map and geospatial information service in Finland, and Simmarihiihto, known as the world’s funniest skiing event, have entered into a cooperation agreement. Fluent Outdoors is the main partner of the 2025 Simmarihiihto event, which will be reflected in the event in different ways.
The idea of Simmarihiihto is to ski and go to sauna one after the other and thus bring out the positive health effects of skiing and hot and cold treatment while having fun at the same time. According to the name of the event, the skiing part is carried out in a bathing suit or other outfit suitable for sauna, in which many participants also put their personality into play by making their outfit funny or unusual.
“Our goal is to offer an event that encourages exercising without the pressure of competition in a not so serious way. In Simmarihiihto, everyone can ski as much as they feel good”, say Anne Partanen and Sirpa Lahti, who are behind the event.
Fluent Outdoors is a map service that shows all sports and outdoor facilities and attractions with maintenance information on the same platform. The aim of the service is to make exercise as easily accessible as possible for everyone. The service is maintained by Joensuu-based software company Fluent Progress RT Oy.
The goal is 400 laps
Fluent Outdoors will be visible next year at Simmarihiihto, not only in the products distributed to participants, but also in the form of charity. Fluent Outdoors brings visitor counters to the event, which are used to count the number of laps skied. If 400 rounds are completed, Fluent Outdoors will make a donation to Hope ry, which supports low-income families with children. The final target number of laps will be revised, if necessary, depending on the weather conditions.
“At Fluent, we also like to do things with a bit more of a playful mind, and we immediately noticed that Simmarihiihto’s people are kindred spirits in this regard. Now that it’s also possible to pay it forward, what could be better”, says Fluent’s CCO Mikko Hassinen.
About a hundred visitors are expected for the event, which means that on average 40 laps should be skied per participant. The organizers are convinced that the goal will be reached.
“We are very excited about the cooperation with Fluent. Counting laps to do charity supports our idea of the positive nature of the event. We ski for joy!” Anne Partanen and Sirpa Lahti state.
Simmarihiihto will be organized for the fourth time on March 8, 2025 in Himos. More information and registration for the event at: www.simmarihiihto.fi
